Pursuant to California law, if you are a member of MercedCERA
while you are married or in a registered domestic partnership,
your retirement benefits may be considered community property and
your spouse/partner may be entitled to an interest in the
community property portion of your retirement benefit.
There may be a time in your life when you choose to appoint someone else to manage your affairs, including your financial affairs by appointing a Power of Attorney. Please bring in a copy of your Power of Attorney so that we may have this on file. Please note that MercedCERA advises our members to seek competent legal counsel for this important document.
When a member retires, they determine who will receive payment of any continuance of benefits or a refund of contributions upon their death in the Benefit Payment Option.
It is important to keep your current address on file with MercedCERA at all times. MercedCERA sends out important information to its members frequently.
MercedCERA is here to assist you at the difficult time of the death of a member or beneficiary. Please notify us immediately upon the death of a member or beneficiary.
