The final average salary (FAS) or also referred to as the final
average compensation (FAC) is the average monthly salary used by
MercedCERA to calculate your retirement benefits.
Tier 1 members have their final average salary calculated using
their highest 26 consecutive pay periods.
Tiers 2 through 4 members have their final average salary
calculated using the highest 78 consecutive pay periods.
Sick leave sold back during the 25th pay period applies to Tier
1, 2 or 3 members only. Tier 4 members can’t include sick leave
sold back in their final average salary.
Vacation leave sold back during the 25th pay period applies to
Tier 1, 2 or 3 members only. Tier 4 members can’t include
vacation leave sold back in their final average salary.
Some special pays, for example uniform allowance, bilingual pay,
confidential pay, may be used depending on the member’s tier and
bargaining unit.
